Chinese New Year 2014! – Wishing everyone a blessed year ahead

Chinese New Year 2014! It is that time of the year again – a time of visiting relatives and catching up with all the long-lost cousins, aunties, uncles, grandparents etc.

During this day and age where everyone is practically travelling for work or study, this season takes on added meaning when we say “family reunion”.

First up is the preparation for visitation. It is the Chinese tradition to bring oranges to your elders’ homes when you visit. So first stop – shopping at NTUC! The more elders you visit, the more oranges you buy!

And then the actual family reunion itself! All family reunion meals begin with the customary Lo Hei – a dish made up of different colourful shredded vegetables + raw fish (usually salmon) added in the centre

So there you have it – the start of the Chinese New Year celebrations, beginning with the Reunion Dinner. Tomorrow is the first day of CNY – so to everyone out there: A most blessed Chinese New Year!
